Study Abroad
Birth of Modern Medicine
In the Spring of 2025, I was given the amazing opportunity to study abroad in the United Kingdom with a group of 14 incredible Pre-Med Students. Prior to the trip, we learned about the History of Medicine through presentations on sites we would visit and a book on Joseph Lister. This trip was life-changing, giving me my first experience of life outside of the U.S. and a whole new appreciation for the World, as well as the History of Medicine. Here are a few moments from the trip!

Old Operating Theater
In the Old Operating Theatre Museum and Herb Garret in London, we were able to see what it looked like to be an early pharmacist and surgeon. The herbs were used in the production of early medication, and the operating theatre was used by early surgeons. Here, we are reenacting what an early amputation would look like, based on a picture we saw in the museum.

Friends of Glasgow
We received special access into the Friends of Glasgow Royal Infirmary Museum. We were able to see exhibits of some of the greats, such as Joseph Lister, John McIntyre, Rebecca Strong, etc. It was an amazing opportunity and allowed for us to understand more of what it took for us to get where we are today!

Stirling Castle
Not everything on this trip was related to Medicine, but the excursions outside of Medicine helped take me into some cultural spaces that I thought I would never get to experience. The Stirling Castle was an exceptional example of this. Our tour guide made us feel like we were traveling back in time, walking through the Castle like we were Royals at some points, and Foot Soldiers at others. It was beautiful.
University of Edinburgh
At the UoE Medical School, we were given the oppurtunity to visit their Anatomical Museum. They had the skeletal remains of William Burke on display! The picture shows how we were also able to visit an Anatomy Lecture Theater and sit in the same seats as current medical students; a foreshadowing into our near future!

Arthur's Seat
I wish I could include so many more photos, but this one had to be one of my favorites. After a long hike in Edinburgh, we made it to the top of Arthur's Seat. The view from the peak of this extinct volcano was something I have never experienced before. My friends and I couldn't help but admire everything we could see, pointing to each of the places we thought we had visited when we were trekking through the streets of Edinburgh.
